Miocene scallops

I went to an exposure of the Rincon Shale formation in my locality to find this:

BTW it was raining fat

And now my collection display looks like this:

The Rincon formation was deposited in a deep marine environment and is roughly 20 million years old

My epic collection

Organisms displayed on Triassic moenkopi ripple formation siltstone. Some older, some younger. The triassic period lasted between the "Great dying" Permian-Triassic extinction event roughly 251.4 million years ago to the Triassic_Jurassic extinction event 199.6mya (wikipedia).

The moenkopi formation is aged at about 240my.

Fossilized snail shell next to the broken calm shell was found at carpenteria beach and is of unknown age.

On the beach

Me n gib snuck down to the beach. Shot some seals...with a camera!

What be dis?

The gun was unloaded, the berrel pointing down into the rocks and saftey engaged
It would take a cruel individual to shoot a seal with a pellet rifle.

Smaller pray on the otherhand...not so much.

Landed a batray

I saw a 40lb or so white seabass this weekend but I didn't have the right tip to land it. Instead I went after this leviathan.
I spotted two batrays laying in the sand on top of each-other. On the bottom was an absolute monster, 4ft diameter and resting on him was a tiny little fella not more than two feet. I observed bolth for sometime before this third fella comes swimming up. Not too big, not too small, juuust right!

Color changing opaleye

I went diving today and caught this opaleye. When I first caught it it was a sandy patern of gray, then it turned dark green/black then after removing its guts it formed a white stripe.
I suspect these guys change colors according to their mood or to match their environment.
